A recent change in tax law now allows people who take the standard deduction to also deduct charitable contributions – up to $1,000 for individuals and $2,000 for couples filing jointly.
Because about 86% of taxpayers take the standard deduction, this means millions more people can now receive a tax benefit for their charitable giving.
